Food Backpacks 4 Kids

In America it is difficult to grasp that anyone, let alone a child, can actually go through the day hungry. Food Backpacks 4 Kids addresses the shortage of food many of these children face on the weekends by providing nutritious foods for kids and their families. Food Backpacks 4 Kids is a nonprofit program established by Peninsula Communities of Faith. It is a community based effort that many churches, service organizations and individuals donate time and treasure to for its success.

This program is now in every school in the Peninsula School District. Every Friday some 500+ backpacks are delivered to students to take home, full of food for a family of four for the weekend.

St. John’s has been supportive of this community program by collecting funds, school supplies and backpacks. St. John’s Outreach funds have been given to this ministry, as well.

Visit the web site to see how you can help. Consider donating money, donating time on a weekly basis to pack the backpacks, donating food or kid “stuff” that is listed on their web site, or donating backpacks.

Watch The Word and the weekly bulletin insert for news of upcoming collections for this community ministry.
