Joseph Z. Pettit

Organist – Choirmaster

Joseph is an alumnus of Pacific Lutheran University, where he studied organ and church music. He continued studies in singing and early music performance practice at the Academy of Ancient Music in Amsterdam under Max van Egmond.

Joe has led a varied career as organist, conductor, singer and early music specialist throughout Western Europe and the US. He performed, recorded and broadcast with many of the world’s finest early music ensembles, including La Petite Bande, La Chapelle Royale de Paris, and Collegium Vocale Gent.

He also spent three years in the Netherlands Broadcasting Choir, Europe’s largest full-time professional choir. He debuted at De Nederlandse Opera in 1992 under conductor Mstislav Rostropovich. Joe has served on the music faculties of the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific University, Chaminade University of Honolulu, St. Andrew’s Priory, and PLU. He appeared regularly as harpsichordist and organist with the Honolulu Symphony and has also played organ with the Seattle Symphony.

As a church musician, he has worked mainly in the Episcopal and Lutheran liturgical traditions.
